Russian government plans switch to GNU/Linux software

Russian government plans switch to GNU/Linux software Electronista: "The Russian government is planning to transition its computer infrastructure to take advantage of free and open-source software, such as Linux. The move, which was reportedly signed by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, will affect a wide range of agencies and other bodies that are directly controlled by the federal government.
The lengthy order outlines specific strategies and timetables for the various agencies to follow during the conversion, which is scheduled to be completed by 2015. Agencies will be required to determine appropriate data formats and other details necessary for the transition.

Interestingly enough, the documents point to a national repository that will be 'similar to the App Store, but for free operating systems.'"
